Seemingly different but, in essence, the same really. You can find my designs on the website, www.hazelblomkamp.co.za, or email me on info@hazelblomkamp.co.za and we'll go from there. I am a designer myself, lucky to be situated in one of those higher per capita locals. Although I have never tried the type of needlework that you design, I would like to "give it a go". Could you please contact me with details on how I might purchase one of your kits?

karend at truenorthnutrition.com
Karen the stitcherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06939903457702231302noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6772369426050217985.post-22189713426317634332013-11-26T00:21:48.042-08:002013-11-26T00:21:48.042-08:00Thank you girls for all of your positive comments....Thank you girls for all of your positive comments. I focused my post on the rich nation/poor nation issue but, believe me, I am equally outraged at their request. Yes, they asked but they should not even have considered doing so in the first place. My country is appalling for this kind of thing but I am fast picking up that the country that this email came from is equally unaware of reality in 2013. And despite the fact that you have said that Guilds ought to know better, my experience is that, along with craft clubs, they are the worst. Particularly where I live.Hazel Blomkamphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07591328587731882502noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6772369426050217985.post-22632031598023024342013-11-25T19:43:21.766-08:002013-11-25T19:43:21.766-08:00Hazel, what you have said is certainly justified. ...Hazel, what you have said is certainly justified. To be truthful a Guild (of any kind or country) should know better. I guess it...Very well said and perfectly justified. I guess it is at least something that your permission was sought and they didn't just go ahead and make the photocopies without asking. They have done the decent thing, but you have also answered well within your rights and I am sure they will accept this. Go Hazel!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6772369426050217985.post-69743929342328678512013-11-25T15:06:25.551-08:002013-11-25T15:06:25.551-08:00Goodness me. You've not over reacted at all, ...Goodness me. You've not over reacted at all, I can't believe that anyone affiliated with a Guild anywhere in the world would be so crass as to ask to photocopy a pattern. As they obviously have been so crass your response is perfectly reasonable, and should give them a pin prick of conscience so rather than asking what you can do for them, they do ask what they can do for you - yes that all too often overlooked thing of people in the first world counting their own blessings and helping others who, irrespective of reason, are not in a position to help themselves.
I could bang on for pages on this subject! Many folks in the 'posh' crafting interests are already willing to pay hundreds of dollars in materials and lessons for one project (driving up raw materials prices as well btw, like quilting), so keeping costs down by attempting to weasel freebies out of the one person involved (the designer) who is trying to make a living from their work, is a bit of a kick in the teeth. Lack of respect or understanding of an artisan's work is an ongoing frustration in this world of fast fashion and disposable goods. What this person doesn't realize is that they are not just taking away the cost of a piece of paper. They do not take into account that they are purchasing your art, your time, your office space, your employees, etc. Stick to your guns!Amandahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07237215041689588711noreply@blogger.com
